At last, finished. My greatest work during the last few months. Richard III Plantagenet
(1452 - 1485), the most controversial king of England and my great artistic inspiration. One of my favourite characters in history.
Months of detailed research, including a journey to England, make my fascination with this man grow from day to day. This is my personal tribute to him.
The image of Richard you see here is quite different from, for instance, the one in The National Portrait Gallery, because it is based on a dream about him, which I had some time ago. It was one of the most remarkable, unusual dreams in my entire life. And my aim was to draw Richard as similar to the man who spoke to me in that alternative reality, as possible. Since nowadays there aren't any known portraits of him painted during his lifetime, I dare to suspect that maybe this particular image from my dream is the closest to what Richard was really like. ^^
I hope that he himself would like it.
The media used here are HB, 4B, 5B, 6B, 7B and 8B pencils with a bit of charcoal. No picture used as a base, only what I have remembered from a dream. The details of the clothes are made up by me. Dedicated to king Richard III and the Ricardians from all over the world.
